    So I have the oppertunity to get pretty regular weekends away to countries through Europe but it will probably mostly be alone. I've seen most of Western Europe so I'd be more interested in Eastern Europe. I'd like to do some tours that last a few days at a time as well. Anybody have recommendations of places to visit or companies that do different tours that only last a few days?

    Dont forget Central Europe also.

    What we used to call Eastern (before the Wall came down) is actually Central (Mitropa/Mittal).

    Go to ;
    Berlin
    Krakow
    Poznan
    Prague
    Tallinn
    Budapest

    Dont go to ;
    Riga
    Bratislava

    IMO of course.

    Minsk is well worth getting a visa for, it's not too hard to get. Belarus is a really nice country in general, great people and very safe to travel around alone.

    I've been to Berlin, Krakow and Prague. Budapest was next on the list alright. I'll check out the other places mentioned as well. Any companies that organise tours of things worth seeing here? Like weekends to the mountains or anything like that?

    Do you need to be in your home country to organise a visa or can you do it abroad?

    I'm not sure but I'd imagine the local embassy could sort you out. The nearest to Ireland is the Belarusian embassy in London so thats the one I used. The turnaround is about a week I think. I think you may have been able to get a visa on arrival at the airport but I never came that way. I usually fly to Vilnius then its about 180km to Minsk by train or bus.

    depends on your age...but would topdeck be an option for you

    also have a look on the tour radar website... just type in where you want to go and it will give you all the tours for that place for various lengths of time

    Krakow is a nice city and there's a lot to do with the co concentration camps in the area.
    Slovakia is also worth visiting. Bratislava has a nice old part to it and of course you could travel north to the tatras mountains (my wife is from that part) fantastic places to visit for the scenery and thermal spas. You could of course drive the 3hours down from Krakow.
    There's the option of flying to Krakow. Travel south through Slovakia and end up in Vienna about 90 minutes from bratislava. It visa versa.
