I am very disturbed by communicorps control of radio in Ireland. Why is it allowed own both national independent radio stations ? It is well known that Dennis O'Brien personally had Sam smyth fired from today fm, He later had long serving Today fm program director Tom Hardy removed and installed a Communicorp yes man in his place.

I thought the biggest scandal is why they have not put their channels on irish dab

They were blocked from owning both 98FM and FM104 when they bought the EMAP stations and had to divest the latter to UTV. So it isn't as if they completely get away with murder.

I agree that DAB isn't the future, largely due to greed from the broadcasters, but internet radio isn't either. Much more complex and costly than broadcast and only ideal if listenership is low.

Waste of money. No scandal to see here.

DAB is irrelevant and pointless waste of money. Only suits RTE. Why would they spend money on an inherently more expensive lower quality more inflexible platform than FM? Or Even AM.

Why would they waste money on dated 80s technology ? Going forward more and more people will be using the internet to listen to the radio. And before Anybody brings up the old chestnut of you cant get the interest in your car, yes you can, It's not 1999 anymore.

Internet Radio only suits very niche stations (actually the extra ones on DAB!) it's not scaleable to Mainstream use, especially on Mobile. On Mobile if the there was NO other activity, perhaps 6,000 to 10,000 listeners simultaneously is possible.

For major stations there is no technology better than FM for Local radio at better than DAB quality, or for near 100% coverage National coverage on AM when quality is less important than low listener power consumption and good coverage.

I've worked with Digital Sound/Radio/Communications design & infrastructure since late 1970s and INHERENTLY so called "Internet Radio" (Media Streaming) is not portable or Mobile or cost effective compared to Broadcast (it doesn't scale to huge audiences) and unlike Digital TV which "works", ANY Broadcast Digital Radio is inferior to FM and AM in many respects. There is no cure. The problem isn't just DAB. That's why DRM never took off and partially why "Worldspace" died.
