High Idle NCT Fail

Just had my NCT there and failed on the lambda readings at high idle.

It should be between 0.97-1.03 and my car registered a 1.06.

Now during the week the car began to idle a bit rough. Fluctuating from 750rpm to about 1200rpm at standstill. I also got a fault code showing a misfire in cylinder 3.

I've had the car about 2.5 years and never changed the spark plugs since as they were decent platnium one's. Would it be a good guess the plugs or 1 of them are gone faulty?

Hopefully someone could shed some light on this for me.

The car is a MK4 Golf Gti with an AUM engine code

    1.8T engine?

Faulty coil on number 3 sounds like the most likely cause I'd say.

About €39 from your local motor factors, relatively simple DIY job.

    Thanks ROR.

Yup 1.8t engine. I'll pop in to them at some stage tomorrow and hopefully that will sort it

Just don't boot it too much until you replace the coil otherwise it will fail totally, and its not much fun on 3 cylinders.

Ya I've been overly cautious the last few days since it happened. I even walked 10 mins down the road to the shop instead of driving. First time I've ever walked to that certain shop :pac:
