    Hello,

Wondering if any architects have done a course on "Building Control Legislation" recently? How many hours a weeks are involved?

Reason I ask is that I waiting on drawings but think I'm getting bluffed and they are using this course as their cover story.

There isn't a course on Building Control Legislation as such. Building Control Regulations changed today, March 1st. The RIAI, the regulator and representative body for architects held three Continuing Professional Development events just last week to brief their members on their new duties which will only come about after today. To the best of my knowledge, most who attended these events were only slightly more informed leaving them than they were when they went in. This system is brand new, and a lot of the supporting mechanisms which will allow it to function 'properly' are not finalised or in place as yet. Don't be surprised if your architect is either slow in coming back to you or doesn't wish to act in the role of assigned certifier at all. All of that said, it does not absolve that person of their responsibility to you as their client to advise you on the appropriate way forward with your project. If the drawings you're waiting for are anything other than post planning drawings (i.e. Tender, Construction or now Building Regulations Compliance Drawings) you need to get to the bottom of the reason why.
