    Hello,

I want to set up the Dyndns service on my router. I have a webserver running on my home network but want to give it a domain name as the External Ip changes every 24hrs . Can I use the Dyndns service on eircom for free or do I have to pay for it , I think i read somewhere that you need to pay now.
I'm currently accessing the server using the Port forwarding to Port 5000. If i use a Domain name do i have to use port 80 on my server ?

If you dont know the answers to those questions STOP. Running a webserver at home with limited knowledge will get you hacked and will decimate your upstream if something decides to DOS it.

By the time you pay for DynDNS you may as well just pay for a cheap hosting package.

DynDNS is free for 2 host names (I've used it for years). You get an email once a month to verify account activity (just click the link). Nothing wrong with running a personal webserver (but Eircom don't want you hosting a website - pointless on a home connection anyway). I use WHS for WebDav for example with my own, what Eircom router are you using? With your own domain name, the port remains the same, the only difference being your IP is mapped to the DynDNS address (e.g oodes.dyndns.org).

Its an Atheros router , originally I think the provider was Vodafone but its now Eircom. Yep its just running an embedded webserver

Just running a few devices at home set as clients and logging the details on a central server , couple of basic webpages on it , nothing fancy.

    Thanks for the straight answer

No problem, is there an option for DnyDNS in your Atheros router configuration? It will only ask of three details after you set it up:

    Username: oodes123
    Password: password
    Hostname: oodes.dyndns.org
