How much meal should I feed to freshly calved dairy cows on 72DMD silage. And how much when on grass by day.

5-6 kilos of high energy nut. Maybe going to seven depending on yield, condition etc. I'd stay with an 18 % til they were on grass full time. Build up nuts slowly as you can sicken a cow quick enough with large amounts of meal

I would only give half that to a freshly calved cow until the calf was sucking all 4 quarters although that would work with building up slowly.
I would divide the feed to morning and evening.

6 kgs? Jesus. Thats 12.4 pounds of nuts a day. She must have feck all milk.
That's an awful lot of nuts for one cow.
