What exactly happens at the means test meeting?
I have been out of work since decemeber and my money situation is 10,000euro in savings and about 4000 in my current account. Am I wrong to be claiming? I just don't want to run through all my money as I don't even have a car and planned to buy one. I'm aware the social welfare officer may find me greedy so was wondering would it be ok if I just showed them my current account statements and not the savings? I don't have any statement for the savings account. Will I look greedy claiming with 14000 already
    Thanks a lot

You are meanstested on that money. I think a certain amount is disregarded. They will ask for all of your account statemenrs, of course they dont know bcos of data protection about what accountsbor whats in them unless you show them.

youll be asked about extra land or building you have that you dont use personally

If you cohabit or live at home and are under 25 to provide their wage slips etc

theyll ask about your attempts of finding employment.

Sallyanne they allow you to have €20000 in savings so please show the Inspector all your financial affairs. You seem like an honest person and you'll just end up worrying afterwards if you don't.
SW don't expect you to wait till all your hard earned savings are gone.

Any failure to disclose money will be welfare fraud. You will be signing documents stating that you have disclosed everything. Info here about means test http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/means_test_for_social_welfare_payments/means_test_for_jobseekers_allowance.html
You will note from it that you are not assessed on the first €20,000 of your capital (which include savings).

Sally Anne, you say you have been out of work since December, were you in employment long before then, if so you make be eligible for Jobseekers Benefit (jsb) rather than jsa. With jsb you are not means tested so any money you have in the bank won't even be questioned.

When jsb runs out, I believe after 9 months, you will then need to apply for jsa which will be means tested, but as a previous poster said the threshold for that is €20,000.

Btw do not feel greedy claiming what you are entitled to.

You are planning fraud even when you don't need to.

If I am 29 years old and living at home with my parents, will my parents income be checked when I claim?

What are the chances of a social welfare inspector calling to my house? Is this common?

Your parents income will not come into play. If you have told the SW the truth then you have no fear of whether the Inspector calls or not.Yes its quite common.

But I told the officer I'm single as I assumed he/she meant not married. What if they call and I'm not there as you say? Is it ok to sleep elsewhere sometimes? Sometimes I stay with my boyfriend or friends. Also what exactly would the officer do when they call? What if I'm in bed? It would be embarrassing.
And finally, is it easy to sign off? Can I sign off if they start to cause me mental stress by calling to my house?

OP you have raised another question on being single and got many replies. This is your third thread looking for ways around answering all questions asked by DSP. Therefore I am closing this thread. Please PM me to explaining your reasoning around these threads. Do not start another thread on this forum until you have spoken to a mod by PM.
