My neighbour has a small firewood processing business, buys atric loads from Coillte and lately says it getting more and more difficult to get the type of timber he wants and of course its getting more expensive.

He was saying that there are a lot of small forest owners around with 5-10 acres of plantation that cannot get harvestors and forwarders to come to them because the job just isnt big enough.
Are there many of these small forests around ? and surely if the owners could link up with small processors it would be beneficial to both parties.

    Yes there are.

Tell him to contact growers groups.

I have just thinned 14 acres and will process it all in summer. Where is your friend based?

AFAIK he is a member of his local group but I'll pass on the info anyway.
