I'm thinking of upgrading the auld haybob soon. I'm not keen on the combi options so considering getting a seperate tedder and rake.
I'm just wondering what are peoples opinions of single rotor rakes, one thing I dont like is that if raking rows (i mow with standard non conditioner disc mower) one sward can be left untouched at the bottom of the row.

They're slow but with some care make a nice row. Unconditioned, you really want to be moving all the grass so it's cleanly picked up. You'll be baling at a more sensible speed anyway with the bigger row which will give it a chance to pick it up better.

What make are you looking at?

Yes you're right, ideally it should all be tedded out, but with the summers we get sometimes thats not the best approach either. As for makes , i like the claas 350 or 470 but far from making a decision yet

Can be expensive little things, was looking at a few a while back but never bought

At least with a single rotor rake if its a light crop you can go up and down the field and get a good bit into one swath, if its heavy just make single rows,
I heard someone saying before if you mow a field a certain direction with no conditioner go across it with the rake at a slight angle so all the grass is moved and easier collected by the baler
what width are the ones you are looking at?
    What price range are they?

Probably go with a secondhand 4 meter, seem to making from 4k euros up.
Good tip about raking at an angle !
