Living room help!

    Hi all.... getting a bit of remodelling done on our house, and will end up with a new living room which is at the moment a total blank canvas for decorating. I'm looking for some ideas as to colours, carpets etc and hoping the good folk here can help!

    The room is 4.2m x 4.8m and will have large french doors on one end (with a full length window either side so the full window&door width is 2.7m), and a fireplace along one wall. After that there's nothing else in the plans for the room yet.

    I love the Laura Ashley Lille linen stripe wallpaper and am thinking of that for along the wall where the fireplace is with co-ordinating paint on the other 3 walls.
    This is the wallpaper, its a neutral stripe but one of the stripes in it is quite metallic so has a bit of a shine. Looking at it in 'real life' its kind of between a silver and gold colour, I'd imagine the colour might look different depending on what it's paired with. It's a bit warmer in reality compared with this pic.

    I'm looking for suggestions for carpet and couch colours, as well as for things like a sideboard and tv unit.

    Main issue will be budget, the work in the house is costing a lot leaving very little for decoration so will be hitting the likes of ikea etc and hoping to get low cost things that still look nice.
    There's two children in the house, and while they'll have a playroom, the sitting room will still need to be suitable for them so white carpet is out :)

    Would be so grateful for any ideas people can give!
