Has anyone taken an interest in the new Air Lingus service to Canada this year? I didn't think I'd be flying out this late for the service to start, with the visa delays I guess more of us might take this route. It provides a compelling new option, skipping a stoppover in a third country I guess.

It's a big year for Dublin-CAnada. Now we have two year round services.

Air Canada Rouge - Year Round
    Aer Lingus - Year Round
    Air Transit - Seasonal
Westjet - via St. Johns Seasonal

Lots of better fares to be found thatn previous years.

Ah that is a nice selection.

I'm heading to the west coast so need one going that far. I checked Air Transat and nope. I notice that going through London first is still a few hours shorter in duration than via Air Lingus.

Possibly a stupid question, but when you say Year Round services does that mean direct? Because I haven't able to find anything direct until the Aer Lingus service opens, anything with Air Canada involved me having to go through London.

Edit: I mean this year, I've flown direct with Air Canada last year but they didn't do direct flights after, I think, October or November, and they don't start up again until a few weeks after the first Aer Lingus flights.

Thanks, they're not half bad. I'm heading to Vancouver myself. They list form London, but BA/Air Canada allow you to book Dublin-London-Vancouver all in one for about the same price. Just unlucky for us heading to Van. It's the same with Air Transat I think.

Has anyone recently flown on Air Canada Rouge, and if so how have you found it?

Looking to fly to the USA via Toronto. I've seen some very bad reviews of Rouge in particular on international websites, but interested to see how the Irish passangers rate it.

Also - if anyone has any experience of going through customs via Canada I'd greatly appreciate your feedback. I previously used the pre-clearance in Shannon and it was very straightforward - I presume the Canadian version is similar.

Air Canada Rouge is just a lower costs Air Canada, think Ryanair but possibly slightly better. Customs in Canada to entre the US will be the exact same as Ireland but proably take longer.

Holiday Pirates have put up a special offer, it's an open-jaw to Toronto and Vancouver. You can fly out from Dublin but then must return to the UK, prices seem pretty good, but do remember to add on your flight (and bag) back from the UK.

If I may post an update on how the flights went:

Aer Lingus: Dublin/London - very modern, fresh, comfy, great

BA: London/Vancouver - slightly shabby cabin, worn out seat, seats were too thin, I nearly slapped the person in the seat behind me for twisting the table on the back of my seat, and I'm a patient, calm person. Though, the food was delicious, the staff were friendly. I will try a different route/airline home. I know Aer Lingus goes Dublin to Chicago so I could get them most of the way home. They have wifi too I read, but BA didn't...
