So, I've an interview tomorrow ... for a role on a sw development team, with testing as part og the roll

hate prepping for these as the one time I did I for the 'prepared answers and blanked for most questions ...

    Just a few questions ...

If you get asked 'what 3 words describe you?', what is considered a fair / good answer and what is considered tripe?

I would be inclined to answer with inquisitive / curious, honest, punctual. what do people think when they hear, see these?

Also, I've been asked in a few interviews, to describe 3 bad qualities I have ... I hate going with the clicheed 'perfectionist', ...

What do people see as correct answers here?

    Any tips in general?

There are no correct answers here tbh.

    Bad qualities for me:

    1. I hate paperwork and procrastinate
    2. I get bored easily
    3. I find it frustrating to deal with people who may not understand a topic as much as I do

    Good qualities for me:
    1. I've learned to adapt my bad qualities and be more patient, and used it as an opportunity to improve my people/communication skills and apportion time when I can complete paperwork without interruption as this was something I found frustrating
    2. I'm good at adapting to new environments and quickly get up to speed
    3. I enjoy learning new ways of working and exploring advances in my area (I work in IT)

As for the three words thing, for me it's

    1. Opinionated
    2. Interested
    3. Adaptable

Very open ended, so you are bound to be asked to expand

The best answer is the honest one (cheesey I know but stick with me).

For the strengths, think about what it is about you that makes you stand out from the crowd. What are you passionate about, what do you know better than most people, what's special about you. Anyone can be punctual or say they're honest. Not everyone is inquisitive, relentless, insightful or driven.

For weaknesses, the 'right' answer is again something honest, but followed by what you've done to improve or compensate for it. Maybe you struggle with public speaking, so deliberately took on presentations in your last company to practice. Or perhaps you feel your <insert tech skill here> knowledge was lacking, so you did a course. Or you're naturally forgetful so use <insert method/tool/software> to track your tasks and projects.

The purpose of these questions is to find out how self-aware you are. Canned answers like 'perfectionist' will impress nobody worth impressing.
