Hi the gearbox is gone on my sisters avensis. She's not planing to repair it. What should it be worth as it is? It has decent tires. The engine has always been reliable. The body is in reasonable condition but has a bit of rust and the lacquer is peeling in alot of areas.

    Thanks.

what milage is on the car and has it nct? I know a lad who charges 120 to remove a gearbox and fit a replacement in cork (i dont think he pays tax though so I dont use him myself). If you could get one for a couple of hundred quid and go to someone like this she might be worth fixing.

There's about 160k miles on it and yeah it has a few months nct. She hasn't decided 100% not to fix it but is thinking it probably isn't worth it.

A local mechanic will do it for 180 and can get a box for 150. But there is a good chance it might need a clutch aswell which would be maybe 140.
She was looking at a 03 volvo s40 on dd for 650 euro. And a mazda 6 for a bit more.

If if helps these lads have a clutch kit for 109 if it is the old engine or 115 for the new one (not OE though).
They also sell the friction plate on its own for less than 40 quid. I wouldnt myself but you could just change this and save a few bob. That said if the bearing went after you would feel silly.
