Spanish from beginning in UCC?

Has anybody here got any experience with starting Spanish from scratch in UCC? I was thinking of taking it up next year if I end up doing the International Arts course.. I know a good few people who have taken up Italian from the beginning but I haven't heard anything about Spanish.

At the moment I'm doing French for the Leaving Cert, I'm not fluent, but I generally get B grades. It's not really a language that interests me that much. I have always had more of an interest in Spanish but I never had the chance to learn it.

A Spanish teacher told me that I could catch up with Leaving Cert Level Spanish in the first term, but I was just hoping maybe that somebody here would have some information in regards to how difficult it is to catch up?

As well as that, I'm not sure if I should keep up French if I'm starting Spanish. I don't want to lose my grasp of the language, but at the same time I don't want to be completely swamped with work trying to juggle both languages.

    Any input appreciated, gracias !
