Did an interview last year for civil service posts but wasn’t offered one of the few vacancies that were going at the time. I’ve been placed high up on a panel, next in line or there about, should they decide to recruit from panel. Panel lifetime is at least 18 months so guessing it will expire in August. Is it appropriate to email the relevant HR division, stating your position and current situation, and make enquiries as to the possibilities of gaining employment in the near future with them before the panel lifetime expires? Or is it a pointless exercise?

    Thanks for reading.

There is no problem doing that. In fact there may be someone that you can call and speak to. It will give you an idea of whether a job is imminent and also when the cut off time is before the next panel is created.
