The long tabletless road to the Google Nexus 10 2

I do not own a tablet and I had planned to buy a Google Nexus 10 2 before the end of 2013 but the rumours never came to fruition.

Tired of waiting, and with the Google Nexus 7 widely reviewed as the best current Android tablet, I was going to order one next week only to discover fresh rumours the Google Nexus 10 2 (and possibly the Nexus 8) may be released at the Mobile World Conference (February 24-27) or if not then at the Google I/O conference in June or July.

If the 10 2 or 8 are released at Mobile World, or announced for soon upcoming release I will snapdragon one up but if not I am torn on what to do. If you were in my position - tabletless, would you wait until June or July or tablet up next week with a Nexus 7?

The money will not break the bank although at the same time I do not want to be wasteful. I was considering if it there is nothing released over the coming days I could order a Nexus 7 and either sell it on eBay when the 10 2 is released or use as a portable device and the 10 2 for couch and bedroom browsing.

    Thoughts?

Firstly, all the rumors and there only rumors at this point, seem to be pointing at a 2nd quarter release date. Secondly, buying Google hardware for the most part (Nexus 4 & 5 & 10) can be a right pain in the ass that involves messing around with parcel motel and VPN's, so it's not like you can just pop into a shop and pick one up when the N8/N10 v2 is released.

Personally I prefer the pure Android OS that the Nexus devices provide due to zero bloatware and much faster OS updates but it boils down to how long can you wait and how many hoops will you jump through?

Personally I'd keep an I on the Bargain Alerts forum as the Nexus 7 often shows up in that and pick one up through that either via Amazon, Curry's or some other offer, even refurb if your ok with that. I had the original Nexus 7 and lost it on holidays and have only this week replaced it with the new Nexus 7 as I wasn't interested in waiting. The original I had was the 32GB version but as I used in 90% of the time at home and was always in good wifi I got the 16GB version this time as most my content is in the cloud.

I have UK and US VPNs, and I am a happy Parcelmotel customer. You are right about them just being rumours, the rumourmill seemed just as sure last year it would be released Q4 2013.

Less bloatware always a good thing, I will probably end up jailbreaking anyway, assuming this device can be jailbroken. Regarding hoops, I guess I am really sick of waiting.

Most of my content is in the cloud and running on a home server which as it is always on and accessible from anywhere I guess is part of the cloud too, that said I would like the best model available which to me would mean the 32GB. Did you go second hand yourself? Can I ask how much you paid?

It seems this 32GB 2013 edition went for as little as €105:

ASUS GOOGLE NEXUS 7 TABLET NVIDIA TERGA 3 1.2GHZ 1GB RAM ANDROID 7" 32GB WIFI

Second hand technology all the more tempting when the device is soon to be last gen.

I'm not sure why everyone is hanging out for nexus 10.2, I have The first version and am very happy with it tbh, it's certainly got more capabilities than I will ever master. Technology is constantly changing and there's always new stuff coming on the market. Why deprive yourself waitin?

Unless you want the bigger screen get a 32gb N7 2013. I flogged my N10 as I didn't touch it since I got one.

I was in the same position for ages and in the end just bought the original N10, its a flawless device and does everything I've ever wanted it to do. I've never hit any walls with the software or hardware so the only real improvement the supposed N10 2 would have for me would be better physical shape, lighter device, better camera etc. If you can get your hands on the original N10 then I'd fully recommend it as it doesn't feel outdated in any way
