Ceiling fix

One of the bedrooms is dormer style, in order to pump isulation into the roof space, a hole was cut in the ceiling, it's square(ish) approx 1ft X 1ft maybe slightly bigger

I have the cut out piece intact & exposed timber available to secure it back on one side.

What's the best way & material needed to secure the remaining three sides to the ceiling & make good so I can repaint?

Would securing the cut out to the timber on the side I can & then use some kind of tape that I can paint over be good enough?

    Thanks

Use a couple of pieces of two by one timber. Put a bit of no more nails adhesive on the ends. feed them into the hole and pull them down against the plasterboard and allow to set for 4 hours or over night. Then comeback and put more adhesive on the patch and fix it up to the timber . You can use tape to hold it in place.
alternatively you can just screw it up to the timber using a few screws. Recess them into the plasterboard and fill will fillers. Sand smooth and paint. job done.

    Ok thanks that makes sense

What's the best filler to use, the cut out edges are rough so I will have to clean them up a bit so could be a few millimetres left to fill possibly

you could use poly filler or similar. Get one that's suitable for cracks as some crack too easily. you could also use Finish plaster but that takes a little more Skill.
So your probably better with filler.
