I recently sent in my application for rental allowance but they referred it back to me again with a request for further evidence of renting privately for 6 months of the last 12 months.
I had sent in a rent book and a lease agreement for two properties I rented but they are now asking for utility bills.

I didn't actually have any bills in my name when I rented at these properties so I don't know what I can do here. I was also signing on at the time of staying at those properties- would that not be sufficient for them to see on their system?

I'd rather not go down the route of registering with the local housing authority, especially when I was renting privately.

Is there anything else I can do here?

register with your local authority. Unless you are parenting alone with at least 4 dependent kids I can absolutely assure you that wherever you are you will not be offered housing anytime in the next three years at least.

Thanks missus! Do you know when the claim will the effective from if I apply for housing need assessment?

The rent allowance unit I deal with told me over the phone that it would only be effective from when i get accepted for housing need, but that could take 12 weeks they said.

It seems very unfair when I handed them in the rent book and lease agreement and did rent privately to have to lose out on 3 months allowance.

On the application form it says that lease agreements and rentbooks are accepted, but they told me that their unit have different rules. Sounds very odd. I'd expect a uniform standard across all the central rent units.

Ask for the supervisor in the unit and refer to the application form. If it says those are acceptable and you have supplied them they should not be looking for further information.
