are you going to cut back on washing your car or still carry on as normal ? I haven't took the power washer out since last summer but I would like to when the weather gets good again however that will come at a cost now.

They're currently installing the meters in my area at the moment so it's got me wondering.

was going to buy two plastic 45 gallon drums. connect the first to the rainwater downpipe, then let it overflow into the second (create an additional overflow on the second back to the ground water drain for when they are both full) and connect the hosepipe to the bottom of the second. the first drum will act as a settlement chamber for any large particles and you can use fine strainers at the entry and exit to the second drum. should be a sufficient quantity and quality to wash the car i'm hoping. should be built for well under €100 and take 2 or 3 hours to create.

admittedly not a viable solution really if you live in a terraced house etc.

You can get a hozelock fitting waterbutt tap for small money online.

Some Local Authorities sell water butts at reduced prices, worth investing in one.Easy to set up.You can strain the water through some cloth to catch any unwanted particles, even a U-bend set up would work.
