I have bought 01 Bora it's due for an NCT soon and i've a had a few things changed and sorted for NCT the only thing i'm worried about is failing the emissions test.

It has a straight pipe no cat / middle box the way i bought it) so im wondering is this a straight failure and is there any point putting it through if it'll fail on that :/ (It's remapped if this makes any difference)

Cheers for any help it is appreciated!

Could fail on noise. Emissions if it's petrol. No backbox/silencers are a fail anyway

    Diesel or petrol?

Pretty sure it's under 100db so it fails straight away for no back box?:/

You might be OK, the noise limit is very lenient for an off boost diesel. To the letter of the NCT, it's a failure for no backbox, but if a tester reckons it's not too loud (which it won't be revving in neutral with the wastegate closed) there's a good chance it'll slip through.

Getting a small bullet box welded in would be fairly cheap and a worthy investment, both for the NCT and for everyday running, though.

By silencer do they mean specifically the back box?
    From NCT manual
    Exhaust Pipe

1.Badly mounted or liable to fall off.
    Silencer
    2.Missing or not functioning.
3.Badly mounted or liable to fall off.
    4.Serious leaks.
    Exhaust Assembly
5.Vehicle exhaust noise has reached or exceeded
    a specified level of 99dB(A).
6.Possibility of fire being caused by leaks or broken components.
    7.Fumes entering passenger compartment.
