I have been thinking of upgrading to the D7000 for a while now. Been keeping an eye on prices, and they have dropped a lot lately. Average around €999 down from previous €1199, but now down to €699 on pixmania.

Was looking at B&H site and they have it at $699 which works out at about €510 (plus sales tax 8.7%) This is a seriously good price!

I'll be over in New York in May for a week and I'm seriously tempted to buy it while there. Anyone have any advice? I have a D3100 with a 55-300 nikor and a 10-20 & 18-50 sigma's which is why I'm staying with DX. I'll have this gear out with me for the trip. Would there be any problems with customs? Has anyone bought any gear in from B&H in New York?

It was a few years back now but I brought a Canon 1dMkIII from B & H when I was over there. No problems with it all and the the warranty was world wide. What I did do was send the empty boxes back home rather then carry them through customs - didn't want to make it obvious i had brought them in the USA. Walked straight through customs without any problems.

Was thinking along those lines too. I'd have to get a bigger kit bag too for the two bodies, will be hand luggage. When I was in macey's before I got the sales tax off when I showed my passport, don't think that works in B&H?

No didn't get any tax back as you had to declare it at the airport and i didn't want to take the chance. Huge saving on prices over here so I want unduly bothered on the tax. I did take an extra bag to bring it all back in and took it onboard as hand luggage. Well worth the trouble!

I've gotten some stuff from B&H before and never had any bother bringing it home. Prices are very good compared to here and their selection is superb. If you've never been to their shop before give yourself half a day - seriously!!! Note that they're Orthodox Jews and don't open on a Saturday. You also can't bring big shopping bags into the shop (they have a facility to leave them inside the door).

The trouble with 'saving money' there is that there's always something else to tempt you. I went in the last time to spend 200 dollars and 'escaped' having spent around 800 :-(

Be sure to check out their Used Department as well, sometimes there's top class bargains to be had there in top condition. You can access it online when you're in the shop.
Once upon a time they used to tick the 'gift' box on online orders but no longer do that so it's not worth it anymore as the customs duty and taxes brings stuff up to the prices here, if not more so actually shopping there in person is really the only way to save money now . Much as I prefer to shop here whenever I can the savings on expensive items there is just too much to ignore at times.

They have a very good iPhone/iPad app also and you can change currency to Euros :)
