PAYE and Self-Employment Query

I have been working as a PAYE worker over the past year or so. In the past week I have started doing 2 days a week in my own time on top of this and will be doing so for the rest of the year. I was just wondering what I need to do RE: the income earned on the side and how (and when) I go about declaring it?

The 2 days a week involves a 100km round trip; can I write petrol off against tax or running costs?

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated because I'm finding it hard to figure out what exactly I can claim against tax etc.
