As a matter of interest, do you have a year in mind that should be a cut off point?

Plenty of youngtimer classics at very inflated prices I'll wager! Cheaper to fly to Techno klaissika! !

Will be there, hopefully they will have learned from last years fledgling event.

Wonder how good the autojumble will be...

Thanks for the reminder, hopefully I can make it up on Sat., last year on the trip up I was overtaken well above motorway speed limits by two boyos in a Bug , seen it in the car park when I got up, fair play to them for driving it on.

I'll be there both days, advertisements seem to be portraying a bigger and better show than last year, plus a bit of auto jumble to nose around at. Its going to be on every two years from now on, anyone else here that?

Edit: If you are there be sure to call over to our stand, The Shamrock Car & Machinery club, we'll have interesting stuff on display, plus a free 'Guess the Classic' competition going on, for those who know their classics ;)

Still thinking about heading to this, maybe with my wee fella who's just four.

I presume the afternoons are jammed and you'd really want to get there early to avoid a mob?

I have to say surprised at under 16's being free! Kudos to them. :)

Yes, apparently it will be every two years (after this weekend's show).

Well, that wasnt too bad at all I reckon!
A huge improvement on last year.
    Roll on 2016!

I was on my way into this in my Wolseley and I broke down...

    I'll go tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭w124man

That wasn't too bad. Nice F40 and Miura SV in amongst the stuff that memories are made of. Good day out and met someone who can paint cars .... !

Have to say I really enjoyed it. It's a shame its every two years now though as Ireland needs a show like this imo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,880 ✭✭✭Kaiser D

I do hope there is a good mix of cars here and not all just rare and exotic. Thats all I'm seeing on Facebook at the moment.

Show me the old Irish reg stuff bought new by Joe Soap over a Miura SV.

Well worth the day out for anyone thinking about going along today, yes I think it should be on again next year.

Went Saturday and enjoyed it. Not too crowded and a good mix of cars. Exotics, vintage and things that we used to drive. I would have liked a larger, better quality auto-jumble though. Went through it far too quickly.

good enough show .. .. drove up the manta , thought classic cars were free to park up ..but no luck ..

6 euro parking and 15 euro in was a bit steep !!! but a decent show all the same ..

fiat stand and landrover stand were the best I seen ..
4 original irish cars on the fiat stand ..and 2 of them Carlow cars !!

not another opel to be seen anywhere up there ,bar my own... :D

Green Manta by any chance? I think I saw you!

I got in for a tenner too! :D

IMO, a lot of the cars there weren't my "thing" - the Rolls' and Bentleys' etc. I enjoyed the likes of the low light Morris Minor, Fiat 600 etc.

    Yep,,

The green manta SR is mine .. thankfully it never missed a beat up and back home in the rain ...

Ah, I was staring at you as you left (I was just arriving)

    Lovely car!

That land speed record car was a fake too...
    Big lump of fiberglass.

    I noticed that.

I wasn't interested in that either way. Most of the stuff there wasn't my thing, the All Our Yesterday's stand was excellent.

I went along with my 2 year old, who loves cars and race cars etc.

What I forgot was, that he is used to getting in and out of race cars and touching them etc as he does be down in Mondello on race weekends, as I run some cars....

...So my hands were full trying to stop him going in under the ropes to get at the cars :D

I did get to see a pretty much all of it throughout the afternoon.

My fave was the F40, and any of the older 911s. It was a great show, 2 years is a long wait for the next one :(

Speaking to someone who is a regular autojumbler vendor, he was put off by the high price asked for a pitch, around the €400 mark.

Hard to beat the Fiat stand with all Irish cars and the old Irish adds from years ago

Mrs told me about this just now. She muttered something about "another waster" :D collector.

A 12min slot about the RIAC Classic Car show from Tuesday's Mooney show with Shay Byrne sitting in.

Bit disappointed not to see more 60s and 70s cars, where were the Renaults, Datsuns, Toyotas, Opels? A bit too many museum pieces that are obviously trailered everywhere....
Nice Granada Ghia, think it was on the Tullow stand. Nice Fiat 128 3p as well.
Thought Paddy Connolly 'showroom' was a bit out of place. Don't really think expensive modern = classic!

How much for a club stand for the two days?

Think we paid €150 for an 8.5m x 6m stand plus an extra €200 for the light.

This seems to be a common comment. As in "a museum grade car, that 'obviously' never gets driven anywhere" is somehow not worth seeing. If someone choses to preserve an old car, so that people who may never have seen one, get the chance to enjoy them, so the better for it. Maybe if more people cared for cars of the 60's and 70's, then they too, would have been on view.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Maybe an 'original Irish cars of the 60s& 70s' stand next time would suffice?

Overall though the general concencus across many forums is the show was good, a marked improvement on last year.

They should make it the '60's and 70's car show', just for you.

Ha, I'd love a decent concours section if truth be told.
Takes a special kinda mad to restore and keep a car in that condition.
There was a couple of nice Escorts there the last day that fitted the bill.

There's definitely room for a show for mostly museum pieces but I still prefer a big field full of mediocre pride and joy's tbh!

Would people pay in to see the "RIAC Mediocre Car Show" ??, in a field, preferably wet and muddy !!
