    Hi Crunchie,
We love that area so much that we have been to the Girona region 3 times in the last 2 years. Girona is a lovely city but for a family holiday, I would just spend a day or 2 in the city and then head for the coast. In Girona we stayed in these apartments http://www.casacundaro.com/ which belong to this nearby hotel http://www.hotelhistoric.com/ You can park outside the city walls just behind this hotel & apartments. Girona has lots of cultural events throughout the year, so check out if there is something on when you go.

On the coast we have stayed in Tossa de Mar and also in Begur. Both are great. Tossa is a nice size town with a good selection of restaurants. We rented a house along the coast just outside the town through this agency http://www.llorell.es/. Begur is smaller but has a lovely vibe. Begur has a great Cuban festival at the start of September and the town has a great party atmostphere. These are the houses that we rented. They are at opposite ends of the town.

If there is anything more that I can help with, let me know.

    Good luck,
    JT.

Thanks for the advice jt_dublin, will check those out. Thinking of going at the end of April as it wont be too hot for kids, have you ever been around that time?

Been there the last 3 years.
We are the same family setup as yourselves.
Love the Costa Brava area we have have stayed in Roses twice and found it perfect.
We stayed here both times http://en.hotelsmediterraneo.com.
    Its perfect for young families.
Nice and relaxed atmosphere ,you are also close to cadaques and cap de creus.
We ferry and drive down there so having the car we can go anywhere, into barcelona, girona or up the coast.
Some of the resorts long the that area can be partyish at night with nightclubs and such.

    HI Crunchie,
Yes, that is the very same time that we went to Tossa last year ( end of April to start of May). We stayed in Casa Estrella on this website http://www.llorell.es/. The area is about 5 mins along the coast from Tossa. The views are lovely and there is a beach at the bottom of the hill down from the house.

The weather wasn't too hot, so you will be fine with the kids. The town is fairly flat too, so is easy walking around there. The old town is up a hill but is still very manageable. The views are great from there. The google street car past us as we walked up there, so we now have a great souvenir of our trip by going on to google street view!

These are 2 of the restaurants that we liked. We went a few evenings to Braseria Pini (dont mix it up it with another one called Can Pini) The lamb and the turbot were great. We also went one lunchtime and had a great pizza, sitting outdoors.

Have you decided on a location? Just to say that Tossa is a nice size town and has everything you would need that you would not need to go any further. Begur is smaller but really charming. Has plenty of restaurants that I can recommend. It also is close to lots of lovely villages, if you are into heading off exploring a different place each day. Also, if driving is a consideration... Begur has lots of windy & hilly roads that can all begin to look alike... so I would advise taking a sat-nav. At that time of year, there aren't too many tourists so you can easily drive into the centre of both places and usually park for free.

Again, if there is anything more I can tell you, please feel free to ask.

    JT.
