Good article on the concept of the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of all humans. i.e the single person that all people alive today have derived their genes from. Was surprised that estimates put that at somewhere between 2,000 and 3,500 years ago....

That seems very recent. 3500 years ago populations were completely cut off from each other, the Americans only met up with the rest of the population again in the 15th century, that's a lot of riding to be done.
