Hey im looking at 2008 honda accords new shape. I am wondering what they are like reliability wise.
Most 2008 cars ove seen have around the 100,000 miles on them is this something to be worried about.

While the accord is my 1st choice i could get a 2010 mazda 6 or insignia for the same price.
    What do you think!

Most new shape 2008 Accords are UK imports as that model was launched in Ireland until 2009, so make sure that they have a verifiable service history, especially ones with low mileage. 2.2 litre I-DTEC engine is reliable enough but power wise they are a little underwhelming for a 2.2 litre and they are a bit heavy on fuel too. Car wise they are fairly solid, well built and generously equipped, they also wear the mileage well.

The Accord will be slightly heavier on fuel all right, mine averages around 45mpg, but its a far nicer more comfortable place to be than the Mazda or the Insigna imo. If I was to choose again, it'd still be the Accord 10 times out of 10.

I currently drive an 08 Accord but its a petrol old shape

Only issue in three years was a new battery

For a diesel they are very reliable, but then again, all diesels have multiple issues. The Honda just seems to have LESS than others.

Ya 45mpg I could deal with. Most my driving is motorway anyway.
I like the look of the mazda 6 but the inside does nothing for me.
Where as the accord is lovely inside and out!

Buddy has a 09, Only time its in a garage is for normal servicing. Never had an ounce of trouble with it. I have taken it for a few long drives, and it is very comfortable indeed. I found the boot small, althoguh I drive an Octy!:p

Bought an Accord last year, heart was broken with previous car - anything that could go wrong did go wrong!
Am loving the Accord, couple years older than what you are thinking about and had 120k miles but have not had a single issue with it. Have put up almost 20k miles on it myself, only cost so far was 2 x regular service. Getting steady 43 - 47mpg on very mixed driving. I am definitely a convert

Ok so for the same price as a 2008 accord with 110,000 miles i could get a 2010 vauxhall insignia sri with 89,000 miles. Would i be mad to go for a car 2 years older?

Not at all. If you are not a reg plate snob then go for the car you want, rather than the newest. I bought my 2009 car recently (Passat cc) and could have bought an Insignia which would have been 2011 for the same money but the Passat to me is a nicer car so I went with that. Have not regretted it one bit so far.

Having driven a new Insignia I would go for the Accord any day. Feels much more solid on the road and nicer car all round in my opinion!

Bit late to this thread. I bought an 09 Diesel accord last October and love it. Yes its an 09 and for the money I could have gotten something a lot newer.. but its the EX model with all the toys and only had 54k km on the clock. Mpg is probably mid 40s alright. I am up and down the m50 every day and its a lovely car to drive. I upgraded from a 2005 civic and there's no comparision. I had been driving my dads 2011 Octavia on and off and thought it was a nice car but the Accord is in a different league.. much bigger/wider car.. Id say it has less boot space alright and not as practical as a hatchback but if you can live with that then cant go wrong. Of course I think it has bags of power coming from a 1.4 petrol civic and cetainly lots more than the 1.6 diesal octavia but then not exactly comparing like with like. My dad gets close to 70mpg out of the octavia on long journeys!

The only frustrating thing I find about the Accord is that Honda are not being very clear on its future here in Europe. There hasnt been a new Accord since 2008, there was a facelift in 2011 but its essentially the same car as the 2009model. The have added tyre pressure gauages on the 2014 car but its still pretty much the same car. Honda are pushing the Civic diesel big time and I seen they have the Civic tourer on display in the their citywest window but for me the Accord is a bigger more luxury car that the Civic cant compete with. The problem is where the Accord is pitched in terms of competing with the A4's and BMWs..

There are suggestions that the next Accord we see here will be based on the Hybrid thats launched in the states... I just hope they clarify the future of the brand soon.

In terms of resale value I dont know where that leaves the Accord.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

    Cheers,
    Mick

I was looking at the Accord Hybrid on the Honda classic golf last night. Thought it looked like a very bland design compared to previous Accords.
To answer OP- I bought an 08 new shape ES GT last November. Very happy with it. Getting around 46mpg. Would have it over a 3 series, Insignia, etc any day.

The Accord hybrid is based on the American Accord saloon which is developed, built and styled for the American market. Europe normally gets an Accord that is either designed for Europe or Japan which are totally different to the American version. I doubt very much Honda will sell the hybrid in Europe as they have already discontinued the Civic saloon/hybrid and Insight in Europe due to poor sales.

I was under the impression that Honda was discontinuing the Accord in Europe :(

It certainly would appear that way but I dont think there has been any official announcement

Thats true, but it looks like poor sales of the Accord means that they probably wont release a europe specific version.

I think in Austrailia they have two versions of the Accord? The euro/japan accord and the US variant? So its not without precedent that we could get a US variant... they do seem to be popular in the states.. I was over in december and lots of Accords on the road...

Ironically the US version of the 93 to 98 Accord (the one the Rover 600 was based on) was actually a very nice car

(we got the estate version of the US Accord over here in Europe as the Aerodeck)
