A total and utter muppet. The man is an idiot. He knows feck all about diet. On a program on aus tv about extreme diets he was found to have massively deficient in B12 and testosterone. He makes up his own little factoids with basis in truth. Not hating just saying.
If you cant tell, im not a fan.

I was buying a giant tcr and wish i never seen that review, just insufferable and thinks hes almighty god of cycling

Ah he's funny in tiny, minuscule doses. Definitely not to be taken seriously, and definitely wouldn't listen to a word of his advice. Suspect we're not hearing the full truth a lot of the time. But can be amusing on occasion, certainly has a personality.

Well he is named after Durian, the incredibly thick skinned tropical fruit that smells like piss....

I watched a youtube clip of him slagging off DC Rainmaker and calling him a sell out. He then promoted his book every second sentence and explained he only gets corporate dollars to make his videos.

I dont like him but I'm sure I'll watch some clips again.

Total and utter muppet, such bad advice at times and his videos are always being suggested by youtube to be watched.

Best advice I got about my first bike and cycling in general was from this guy.
I'm not saying it's good advice for everyone (what advice is), but it makes sense to me.

-Get an Alloy Bike, don't worry to much about Carbon bikes
    -Get fitted for the bike
    -Mark the bike after fitting
-MTB pedals and shoes more practical
    -Drink plenty of water!

Anyway I'm delighted with my Giant Defy 5 and MTB pedals and shoes. If I'm honest I found him pretty inspirational, he clearly has a passion for cycling! It was enough to make me get off my arse and start cycling 17k into work every day, so I can't knock him for that. Each to their own I guess...

He looks like a concentration camp victim so I wouldn't listen to a word he has to say on dieting. I would say about 20% of the rest of his advice has merit, the rest is utter garbage.

Here's an interview with Ben Greenfield and Harley Johnstone.

The advice he gives is solid - it's possible to thrive on a fruit only diet, if you want to ( I'm sure its combined with green vegetables though ). Not practical outside the tropics & sub tropics I'd imagine.
As for being annoying, no doubt hes hamming it up for the camera.

    He's a character alright!
He has a bamboo framed bike & numerous other bikes & >4 power meters. He travels regularly all over the globe: wonder where he gets his €€€.

He seems to think a power meter is the way to really improve your biking performance...

30 bananas a day!! I don't think so. When I told my sister, who's a nurse about this she was shocked. No roughage and that's a serious amount of potassium to be putting into your body, especially if you have any medical condition. I find his mechanical advice ok, some of it does stand up to scrutiny, but his dietry and medical ramblings are just that and best avoided. He is entertaining but thats the joy of the internet everyone can have their say.

    http://paleozonenutrition.com/2011/03/05/30-bananas-a-day-durianrider-an-analysis-of-his-paleo-vegan-diet/

A nutritionist goes over his diet. A typical days eating:
    1 watermelon 20lb
    1/2 head of celery
3000 calories of bananas – a box full
    sultanas approx 1/2 cup
    citrus – oranges, 15 lbs

20kgs 15kg of watermelon and oranges. Perhaps he hopes to be sponsored by andrex or cushelle. Apparently he weighs 63kg, so he eats over a third about a quarter of his body weight every day? That's mad ted.

    "his blood sugar 3.4 mmol/l."

No wonder he's nuts, he's probably constantly rebounding from hypoglycaemia.
