Are the majority of self employed people in financial services working in sales ie financial advisers / brokers? Is there any other areas or opportunities for self employed people in this industry?

There are still many in the industry Training/Consulting in a self employed capacity.

What experience have you in the industry?

Mainly in mortgages / bit of pensions! I am currently doing QFA's, would like to get a few years experience and then become self employed!

That's not a bad idea! There are those jump straight into self employed fin advisor rolls, some succeed, some don't! Aside from experience&knowledge the ability to persevere and generate contacts is key in that industry, apparently.
