    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows what happens during these strikes? An In Is it an all out strike or do some flights get to depart? If so, do they favour Long haul flights etc ....

Apologies if this is a stupid question. Never really affected me before. Should have paid more attention :)

    I'm wondering this myself
I am due to go to florida on the 13th... I leave dublin - manchester and connect there
I am thinking I may just book ryanair flights on thursday, and I could with them. but I am wondering would I have problem connecting in Manchester because I never checked in on the aerlingus in dublin?

The way they were talking a couple of weeks ago the strike was to be from all DAA staff and Aer Lingus, this would mean no flights in or out as there would be no staff manning fire engines, security etc.

Every 3-4 months one on EI & DAA ballot for a strike.

    But they rarely follow through.

Will this affect Aer Lingus Regional flights seeing as they're technically operated by Aer Arann?

Just on this general point, all subsequent sectors would be cancelled if you're a no-show for that first flight.

This thing is a waiting game unfortunately, but I'd be surprised if an all-nighter or two doesn't get this resolved without need for industrial action.

Fingers crossed this doesn't go ahead. I'm meant to be going to London that weekend.

Hi all, just hoping someone might be able to help and offer some advice or insight into my problem!

Flights booked to New York with KLM for the morning of the proposed strike by Aer Lingus, the first leg of the journey is operated by Aer Lingus through KLM and falls within the strike time, pure luck!

Just wondering, as this is all booked through KLM, are they obliged to re route us or use another carrier airline? Very worried over it and thought I'd post here as it's usually the place to get good info and advice!

Hoping someone out there has some insight, never been in this situation before

    Many thanks in advance boardies,

    Dave

I'm open to correction here but its not just an Aer Lingus strike it is also a DAA strike which means Dublin airport will come to a standstill no matter what airline you are flying with.

I'm heading away on the Saturday the 15th myself, so really hope this doesn't go ahead.

EDIT : There's another thread for this, might be worth asking questions there.

Aer Lingus will make arraignments for different travel if needed.

I can't see it going ahead, yes notice served etc but its usually called off.

I am flying to the USA at 10 AM that morning, what is likely to happen to my flight?

The stopped is until 9 AM, will it take a while to get the airport back open?

Do people think the stopage will go ahead?

It's likely there long haul schedules will have no effects because of it, a few aircraft should get in before the closure at 5 am and in general Long Haul will be put before Short Haul when it comes to crewing flights.

Thanks, surely there will still be delays?

Unbelievable that SIPTU have not yet called off the strike after the government have taken steps to resolve this.

Anybody have any more advice/info on the strike? Worried now about my flights, KLM and Aer Lingus don't seem to have any info on their sites and when I call they don't seem to aware of what's going to happen.

How likely is it that we'll make it to NYC on Friday 14th? As before, our flights are with KLM but using Aer Lingus.

Anyone else in the same boat?

All Aer Lingus re-schedules are on their website.

No news from any other airline yet.

I presume flights early on the 15th will be ok?!

Here's hoping that this can get resolved asap and SIPTU see sense.

Yeah, should be no issue with the 15th. Mayhem will be on the 14th if SIPTU get their way.

SIPTU have met with the ''expert group'' and decided to still strike and airlines have already gone to the trouble of cancelling and shifting around lots of flights, can't see them calling it off at this stage.

The DAA this evening said that every effort is been made to stop this SIPTU strike. There is still is hope.

Only one airline has rescheduled, Aer Lingus. Ryanair, US Airways and others have not rescheduled yet.

Not giving up hope that Leo or the DAA can make SIPTU see sense.

Long Haul carriers probably won't make to much changes just delay the departures from US side. Most Long Haul flights are in around 9 when its over.

Ryaniar will probably just operate a delayed schedule once it opens. They have the staff and capacity to do this unlike Aer Lingus.

I can't see it being called off unless daa go to the high court and get an injunction.

It's to late to call it off anyway, Aer Lingus won't be able to change there plans again.

DAA now seeking an injunction to stop strike action,if they're successful and strike is stopped wonder what Aer Lingus will do?revert back to normal schedule or leave things as they currently stand.

    More bloody confusion!

Aer Lingus will very unlikely revert back to the normal schedule, the whole point of the change was to give passengers certainty over travel plans. From the operational side they would of had to apply for slots at airports and cancelling these and re applying again takes time and costly to the airlines. They may try to operate some of the cancelled flights though where possible.

I am booked to fly Barcelona to Dublin on the 14th, arriving at about 1.30. I got a call earlier tonight from Aer Lingus asking if I would like to "volunteer" to switch to the Saturday flight and stay in Barcelona an extra night for free. I was at a function when they called so I couldn't really talk. I am not sure if "free" means extra night in hotel plus meals and parking or just a change of flight. Will ring back tomorrow for a better explanation. Also I will ask what happens if I don't volunteer.

If nobody from the flight volunteer EI may re route you are first come first served at BCN check in. EI will cover all expenses for the extra night.
