What is your preference for monitors?

I'm looking at 2 an LG IPS237L or Asus vg236h!

Anyone have any experience with the 2 different types? This will be my first time buying a monitor

If you play a lot of FPS games then with a 120Hz monitor

    IPS, hands down for me.

You're not going to get the benefit of a 120hz monitor most of the time unless you have a beast of a pc.

Depends on the game of course.

A solid 60fps is more then enough for me. So yeah, a jaw dropping IPS panel for me.

A rotatable IPS monitor, is the sex. Especially if you see yourself programming anything in the coming years.

    ....Which yours is not :(

As said above unless you have a computer valued over 1200-1500 a 120Hz monitor will not make much difference.

The only good thing I see in 120hz panel right now: no need to turn on vsync.
Other then that, I could not go back to TN panels anymore. Colours are addictive :pac:

It does make a difference in games like BF4 but, yeah you need a PC that can handle it.

I went with IPS myself, even though I mostly play FPS. To be honest I haven't seen 120Hz in person so I'm definitely curious. I would be nice to see these side-by-side on a decent rig (and g-sync too!)

You wouldn't see any difference. It's more of a feel by playing the game at a higher fps.

OK, I have a r9 270 at the moment, fx 6300, 8 gb ram. Looks Like an IPS is the clear choice as I doubt the 270 could push 120 unless I turned down some serious settings... and graphic fidelity is the reason I built the PC, so I could migrate away from console gaming and also to give the missus some more TV time.

I will go with an IPS for now. If I upgrade to a 280x which I may do later this year I will consider a 120Hz monitor.

    Thanks for the input people

If you're into competitive fps like quake ut etc go for 120 hz.

    IPS all the way then.

Agree with most here. IPS is fantastic for the colours. Play the likes of of Trine 2 when you get it.
Originally, they suffered from bad response times in comparision to TNs, but most of the IPS panels available now are good enough for it to no longer being an issue.

I can't see the difference between higher frequencies, but if you really need a slight competitive edge, then it can be worthwhile.

You could always get the best of both worlds and get a Qnix from ebay + overclock it. High resolution, IPS, 90-120Hz, depending on how lucky you are. There's always the risk that the panel won't be of top quality/import taxes/demands on your system with the higher resolution.

There's no shortage of IPS ~23'' monitors available that are of good quality and I wouldn't settle for less than that nowadays!
