Anyone ever encountered this? Randomly started over the weekend & comes & goes.....if i close the lid & re-open it'll disappear for a bit but eventually come back. Also if I angle the lid or sometimes apply pressure to the back then it might disappear for a while too
Some articles online say I need a new LCD screen but others say it could be just a loose connection
Any recommendations of trustworthy places that'd take a look & if it's just a cable then fix that rather than sting me for the coupla hundred quid for a new LCD?

take it to an Apple centre, if you bought it in the EU it should be covered

Based in Waterford, its a 2008 unibody aluminum Macbook...I think it was the last version before they renamed all the aluminum versions Macbook Pro's in 2009

Bought from Apple online but well out of warranty....mactivate say it most likely needs a new display assembly or could be somethin wrong with the Logic Board which houses the graphics circuitry (eek) & ExpressTech dont have any parts for that model

Looks like wear n tear over a period of time from a cable within the display to be honest with you.

Did Mactivate give you a quote on the display replacement?

No, just that a "technician would need to take a look" which sent a bit of a chill down my spine based on previous reports Ive read about them on here

If it were just a cable would that mean I'd need a full display refit I wonder?

More than likely, as the parts the Repair Centres have here would be an all in one part - in this case, the display module.

I'm sure there would be a way of ordering the cable itself & fitting it in yourself. Bear in mind we don't actually know if it is indeed the cable that is the issue or the screen itself and plus, it is a very tedious task.

You might be better to look for a repair centre in Cork.

Your problem looks like the Mac LVDS cable is faulty.

This is how to replace the one on the A1278 model ( not simple ). Mactivate want to replace the display because the cable will Probably be included with a new one. It MAY be the display (damaged connector) but that would probably give black lines or bars.

    As I said.. Tedious :)

iFixit do awesome guides on this sorta thing.

FYI www.bookyard.com do most Mac spares (they appear to be a Mac breaker outfit!). They have a good blog and serial finder also.
