Had my first car 'incident' last week and not sure of the process...was hit by another car, was their fault, got their details so i reported it to my insurance company. My claims assessor now wants to go with me to look at where this happened.

Should I be contacting the other drivers insurance too or will my insurance company recoup costs from them??

Let your insurer deal with it; its what you pay them for.

Not sure why you need to go to where the accident happen. Use google streetview if available chart out/talk the claim manger through the incident to avoid the need to go visit the site. From their let the insurance company take care of everything else. The only work you need to be doing is to get an estimate for the repairs and have your garage submit them to your insurer. Everything else should be handled by the insurer.

Insurer might want to see things like skidmarks etc. Also road markings can change between the Google maps picture being taken, and even layouts etc might be different. Its not uncommon for an assessor to want to see the scene of an incident.

If the area is relatively accessible then i would understand but a rural difficult to find location might be different. Had a similiar issue myself and just talked the assessor through google streetview with full GPS coordinates for a very remote location and they were more than satisfied with the level of information.
