As title i gave this watch as a present at christmas and it is gaining approx 3 mins every 24hrs, i knew the watch gains approx 3 seconds a day which is fine, i have adjusted the time several times thinking a few adjustments would calibrate it however no luck, could the mechanism be faulty?

Other on this forum know alot more than me. Has is always run fast or did it just start running fast recently? If it's only starting running fast recently did it get a knock of some sort?

The accuracy of mechanical watches changes slightly day by day, depending on the various conditions in which the watch is used or the outside environment. Accordingly, the loss / gain of mechanical watches is not measured by a daily rate, but by an average of daily rates in one week or ten days when it is actually worn. This is why the accuracy of mechanical watches is indicated by "the mean daily rate."

Is it worn daily and did you measure the accuracy over a consecutive period of days? 3 minutes per day seems excessive all right. COSC regulated watches should be accurate within -5/+5 seconds per day and non COSC would generally be around -10/+10 seconds per day.

If it was only purchased at christmas gone and it's losing that kind of time per day I would suggest asking the retailer to take a look.

If you have no joy with the origional seller then you may need to take it to a watch maker to have it rated and adjusted. Simple process but time consuming.

May be unlikely, but one of the causes of a watch running this fast would be if it was magnetised. You can always try getting it demagnetised at your local supermarket, won't do any harm.
