Hi guys I'm in the process of buying a used car I have my eye On one it's a 2012 opel corsa ecoflex 1.2l it's got 65,999 k clocked on it and priced at €11995 they are saying it's a show room car, I'm trading a 01 opel corsa 1l in and I'm getting the car for 10500, is that a lot of kilometers for a 2012 showroom car? Should I try get it down in price or am I getting a good price for it they are expecting me to take it today but I'm prepared to walk away from it if it's not a good deal

What's a showroom car? A demo? If it was test-driven every day, 6 days a week (Mon - Sat), for 2 years that'd be 172km per day. There must be great footfall in this main dealer, and a dedicated sales person bringing people out in the corsa all day long.

I'm struggling to see how this is a "show room car". It's a used car with a lot of miles, and it might even be a an ex-rental.

So, guff aside, this is a 2 year old heavily used Corsa, which is 15K OTR new and they've been asking for 12K

    Or is it this car?

If so, the online price is 9,900(11900 'retail' - 2000 'scrappage'). This is more guff to make the deal seem better. In fact, if this is the car, the dealer appears to be offering to take your old corsa off your hands for 600 euro if you buy the car for 9,900.

    For example here's one for 9975 (10975 'retail' - 1000 'scrappage').

This 'scrappage' nonsense is just pulling a retail price out of their arse so they can pretend they're giving you a good trade in value. One is claiming a wild trade-in of 2K, the other 1K

I have no particular comment to make on Corsas. I would certainly be looking at the second example though, as it has nearly 20,000km less on it.

Also, if the first car I've shown is the car you're doing a deal on, I certainly wouldn't be giving them a penny over the 9900 price advertised online.

Probably meant to say "showroom condition"

Garages do not put up 66k km on "showroom" or "demo" cars. They normally have to keep them for 3 months and then sell them on. To me that mileage on a 2012 car sounds like an ex rental. It's hefty enough mileage for a fairly new small car also.

Also trading in the 13 year old Corsa is a serious disadvantage when it comes to negotiating the price of the new car. A 13 year old car is worth very little to a garage as it is too old to offer a warranty on it and make money from it. Despite the trade in figure looking favorable you are actually not getting €1500 for it. I bet if you would still buy the 2012 Corsa for at least €10500 with no trade in and sell the 2001 Corsa privately.

Isn't Kelly Opel in Waterford owned by Boland's ? Whol also have the Hertz franchise for Ireland ?

My bet it's ex car hire. Unusually high miles for a 2 year old petrol car.

Ye I was told that by a mate that bolands owned them and many other garages in Waterford did not know about the car hire franchises though

Front bumper looks the wrong shade tbh.
Annoying that the reg doesn't show on the ad.

It's a Dublin reg, I never went for the car in the end still looking, nothing worse than looking for a car but no better feeling than finding a car that you love and feel comfortable in

Those two are 100% ex-Hertz rental cars. Especially if they are D reg'd.
The Hertz depot is in Wexford town and all their cars are D reg.
I had a loan of a 131 Corsa during Xmas.
The are a painfully slow car to drive and not economical at all, the seats weren't comfortable at all.
I mean for 11k odd you'd expect the car to have, at the very minimum, Air con.
Personally I'd spend my money on something else and defo nothing from a Hertz background... trust me.

Agree completely, had one out on hire last week and it was the slowest car I've driven in a long time, and waaaaay less economical than the vw up I had the previous week.

I'd rather buy something like this:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/car-seat-leon-sportiw-1-4-tsi-turbo/6490732

What are the requirements for your new car?
Small engine and petrol seem to obvious answer but what max engine size would you want?
