Is there any sites that list all of the off road trails in or around Dublin? Particularly ones for beginners :D

    Hi .ak

For beginners try the joggers trail around the phoenix park( start off at garda hq n follow trail around by the wall, will eventually end up at the magazine fort) if its a complete novice, otherwise try the coillte mtb trails in ticknock off rathfarnham ( check coillte site for more info on trails), ticknock has a beginners shorter trail! also check site called trailblazers and biking.ie (biking.ie hold beginner classes in ballinastoe trails) and MAD mtb club are holding beginner spins at the mo.

    Cheers D, much appreciated.

Yeah I'm pretty much a complete beginner, as the last time I did any offroad stuff I was a young teenager! Infact, I haven't been on a bike in about 10 years. So looking to ease myself back into it.

Maybe as well to cycle around some of the smaller trails in the Phoenix park, just to get used to your bike, gears/brakes etc..

Ticknock is not really beginner friendly at all, Ballinastoe is slightly better, though I would recommend a few lessons from Biking.ie rather than venture out yourself...

Yeah will defo just start off in pheonix park, only a few min away from me as well.

Will look into lessons from biking.ie, cheers.

Worth checking out Howth too, some basic trails up near the summit masts. Handy enough to get practice on before attempting trickier ones.

Yeah they're the ones I used to use when I was younger. Wasn't sure if they were still there or not.

Yeah there are still some up there and they are usually very quiet, not too many walkers. I think most people stick to the cliff areas which can be a pain to cycle on so I prefer the summit area.

Would not recommend the cliff walk/trail for beginners!

Sorry, I meant most walkers tend to stick to there and I wouldn't attempt them if starting off as a beginner.

    This.

The Ticknock upper trail has suffered the effects of the recent bad weather and erosion has caused a big drop about 200m in. The newest trail is more beginner friendly, but the 15 or so trees down across it are slightly problematic :pac:. The lower trail is alright, but just needs care in a couple of spots. The non-official trails are probably a bit too difficult.

Ballinastoe is deffo suited for the beginner - especially the introduction and short loops.

MAD are having their beginner spins in a couple of weeks which might be worthwhile http://www.madmtb.com/

Imagine my suprise when I went down this on my own at night recently. I'm not sure if this is due to erosion, to me it seemed like there were boulders deliberately removed to make the trail more challenging.

Yeah they've definitely intentionally made the upper trail a little more interesting in a couple of places.

    This is a good site
    http://www.trailbadger.com/

Kindlestown Forest and the Leadmines are pretty beginner friendly

That section of the original trail is being made into a DH run as far as I know...

Any more info on that Tenzor?
I went down that fast enough recently and the changes took me by surprise - no notice about work being done on it at all!
the new trail is cool but they still seem to love lining the track with rocks and boulders which will eventually badly injure someone.

also AK, +1 on the Pheonix park trails mentioned they're nice to do.

If you get a chance check out the Leadmines and Kindlestown they're both cool
trails and you'll learn more from doing them than the official coillte stuff.

One thing to watch out for in Kindlestown is that somebody who doesn't like mtb'ers
up there is dragging logs and branches etc on to the trails so watch out for that!
Tis clear now though after my walk up there today:pac:

He must be a big bastard. He's knocked about a dozen trees across the new trail in Ticknock :pac:

No updates as yet, perhaps delayed due to the bad weather..
