Tanking a bathroom

Doing up my bathroom upstairs at present. Timber floor. A builder friend suggested I put in a wet room type shower in and get fibreglass tanking in. I'm a plumber by trade but never came across this. Anyone ever seen it done or is it a success?

I'm familiar with that stuff alright. I'd use that if I was using a standard shower tray. But I'm tiling straight onto plywood and this Fibreglassing is meant to be almost shell like when finished

Look into floor formers.easa, impey are makes of them you fit them on to the joists and the correct falls are built into them then use the standard tanking kit you get.

Its great way of doing a wetroom. The tanking product is to go under a shower tray as a secondary defense against leaks after the tray seals leak but the fibre glass system is basically pouring a tray to suit the individual area and then you tile over it.Standard tray size if you prepare the ply base yourself , fibre glass part should cost no more 200 euro materials and labour .We've been using it for about 5 years and have not had one problem with it

Fibreglass is practically bullet proof in a wet room, far superior to tanking kits. Make sure your tile adhesive is specified for fibreglass because most flexible adhesives are not.

Can you buy the fibreglass as a kit like the tanking kit and do it yourself
