I Need a New Monitor

    Hi All,

I currently have a Pioneer PDP-503MXE. It's a 50 inch monitor and it's about 13/14 years old. It's put in great service (17,000 hours) but a fault has developed that causes the top of the screen to turn green once the temperature gets up. I have both cooling fans running all the time now so it's only a matter of time before the screen is unwatchable.

Basically it's a monitor. It has no receiver. It receives it's source input from a Sky HD box, PS3 and Apple TV via a HD Fury. The picture quality and color depth is excellent.

I'm starting down the long road of looking for a decent replacement but my budget has yet to be determined :o

I'd like to replace it with a 50 inch or larger. I went to Power City today to replace my microwave oven and had a browse through the TV department. I saw a nice looking LG 50 inch plasma (1080p) for €599 but was appalled by the PQ which looked sloppy close up. My elderly Pioneer has much more definition at 720p.

Does anybody know where I could source a replacement monitor that will do 1080p? I've no need for a TV, Saorview, Smart TV, etc.

Any suggestions or ideas greatly appreciated.

While I'd love a PJ, I think I'd have trouble convincing the wife as it would mean making the door to the dining room redundant. I have a preference for plasma as I like the depth and warmth that the glass gives (reflection is not an issue). I find LED screens too cold. Maybe I can be convinced otherwise.

Apologies if all that sounds long winded.
