License for sportives

I got a non-competition license which was required for doing the Galway cycle. I'm now thinking of doing a couple of sportives this summer. Is this license ok for sportives or do I need to upgrade to a higher one? I'm not interested in racing at all - looking at more social events than competitive ones.

AFAIK a license is not mandatory for sportives, you can enter some events without them, but a one day charge is added for insurance purposes. Over the course of the year you'll probably save a few yoyo's by having one.

Are you implying that some Sportives may offer a reduced fee to those with a license?

I ask this because I'm recently back cycling and plan to do a few sportives so if it saved a few bob I'd be all up for it.

Generally it's an extra charge for those without a licence.

I thought a non-competition licence was applicable to sportives which are non-competitive(in theory of course). Surely the first competitive licence is the club competition one. I think I started last year with a non-competition licence, did a few sportives and then upgraded to club competition.

Certain sportives do apply an extra charge if you do not have a cycling Ireland license. The reason given is for insurance purposes.

A lot of sportives are covered by CI and that essentially means the insurance. They should give you a discount with the CI licence. you just need the NC for sportives.
