I was looking at this car
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/08-bmw-320d/6136891

which the owner says needs a new flywheel and clutch which he has but doesn't have the money to fit it as he lost his job.

Is this a common problem with bmw's and does it cost much to fit?
Would it put you off buying the car?
(will be looking to get it cheaper than asking price)

DMFs nearly always need replacing in modern diesels at some stage but generally it is usually at high mileage (100k+ miles) when they do. As the gearbox and clutch have to come out to replace the flywheel it is recommended to replace the clutch at the same time. I'm not sure about BMW specifically but generally it can cost between €500 and €1k for parts and labour from an indy garage.

Is the guy selling it a part time dealer or someone flipping cars over for a quick buck as according to the motor tax website ownership changed back in December? Something just doesn't sit right with me regarding that car, no mention of service history either would make me very cautious about it.

Jesus he is mad for the aul kerbs.

If you can get the price of the job of the going rate for the car then I would have no problem buying a car that needed a new DMF as they are going to go at some stage so your saving yourself the hassle and expense down the line.

Not sure about that car in that add do.

135,000km = 83k miles so to be expected really around that mileage. Seen lots of BMWs start going around that mileage online.
Mine just started going on my 5 series at 120k mikes and from looking online the parts are around €700 with another 2-300 for fitting I'd imagine.
Xenon lights top to bottom? I know Xenons are optional but didn't realise fogs were xenon as well unless it's a HID kit?

It does seem cheap for a 08 320D even with the cost of flywheel replacement built in?

Car looks clean, interior is well minded and flywheels are almost a consumable at this stage. I'd be haggling hard, very hard but going for it if that was a car I wanted OP. Budget on 2k all sorted and you won't go too far wrong. People buy stuff they then need to sell for various reasons. That wouldn't put me off, once the engine/gearbox was sound and it drove well. Hard to "dial out" the clutch in your head on a test drive though and focus on what else could be wrong, but if you use the force, you should be fine. Just my opinion.

First thing I'd check is that there is no finance outstanding on the car.

Advert says new clutch and flywheel are supplied with car, just not fitted due to no money to pay for labour on the job. But yet the owner has just got it valeted ? I know having the car clean is important, but personally I'd have put the money to the clutch labour bill and I'd have cleaned the car myself.

Advert placed by a lady owner ... is she the person selling, or is it a bloke "selling for his friend" ? The latter would ring alarm bells in this case.

Could of been valet'd by the seller, at no extra cost.
The HID is retro fitted from top to bottom on that car, so will be a nuisance to other road users.

Clutch and Flywheel is a wear and tear item, they do go, and costs between 500-1k as mentioned above.

Theres loads of these for sale, so i would rather my money on a better one but then agian, people see the cheap ones and assume thats the going rate.
