Nct failed after repair

took the car to get its headlights aligned on monday before the nct retest today (sunday)
the car passed all except headlights (tester said they were too high).

Is the garage to blame for this? can I get my money back? can I force them to realign again for no charge.

I haven't spoken to them as they are closed at this time but ill be down first thing in the morning.

any advice how to handle this, should I just demand them repair it correctly? do I have any rights here? can they get away with saying that they were done correctly last week they must've come un-aligned in the 6 days between repair and test?

or should I just go to a different garage and have them re-aligned?

is it a full test now again?

failed mine on a window its closing ok but sticking when opening sometimes
the gimp wouldnt go out to the motor to check it working as it needs a few clicks of the switch sometimes,
it was also in to have a suspension test and a coilspring checked as it was rubbing in the housing...

all done in 6 minutes a handy 28€
i didnt do anthing with the coilspring just wiped it with a rag to clean it
im ok with the window but have no nct stealthtax disc now
its a lame joke this nct too lame to be a scam
they didnt pick up on faults that im fixing anyway like window washers broken ,1 wiper torn or the rear antiroll bushes worn out...gimps!

no just another retest if it is within 28 days of original test, otherwise it is a full test.

looks like you have your hand full with that beast

    It's not a repair, it's an alignment.
But yeah, head down to the garage with report and insist they pay for retest (but first align again obviously).
Be nice but firm, it's their fault you didn't pass test.

They realigned and offered to reimburse for the test.
However. They did find the cause. The light isn't sitting right in the housing and there is some up and down play in the unit.
Basically. When the bonnet is up it can move about a cm. So when you close it the beam raises a little.
So when they aligned it was fine. But when the nct looked with the bonnet down its misaligned.
Lucky they found it. Had them set it a little low hopefully it will be ok.

Hard to imagine such a problem not being spotted the first time they had it.

Not really. The boot lid moves the light slightly. Easy enough to miss. They found it today only because they were trying to figure how it would be off as their machine read it as spot on. While the lid was up.

I don't understand this ridiculous attitude you and many others have. The NCT is cheaper than the vast majority of national Car tests in Europe and the rest of the world for that matter plus its only every 2 years for cars younger than 10 years unlike yearly elsewhere. What more do you want? A free test with a 5 year expiry period maybe???

Drivers window must be functioning to pass the test.

micraX, please start a new thread - this thread is someone else's.
Also be more detailed about what your question is and if there is a fault with a window you are wondering about.
The clearer the question, the clearer the answer.
