Well lads as I mentioned ive an English Setter pup. He was 6 months old last week. I take him for a walk every day and every second day I leave him off the lead for a run. I have a great relationship with the dog and realy enjoy working with him. the problem is when I recall him he will come back but not to my feet , he will circle around me at a distance where I cant reach him. Any help would be really apreciated

Your relationship needs work just a guess but he might not want to go back on the lead maybe thats why he doesnt trust coming close try working on it in small space the kitchen floor maybe lie on the ground and allow him jump all over you should build up his trust in you do you usually have the lead in sight when hes off it

Ya relationship as in he might not trust that you wont stick him back on the lead when he comes close does he react like this when it comes time to go on the lead im prob completely wrong just guessing here as you said you use the lead every second day every relationship needs work every day I wasn't criticising its like a pup not coming in with a dummy for fear youll take it its safer to stay out of reach

If your putting him on the lead every time you call him in it makes sence that he will keep his distance. Next time your out bring a bag of treats in your pocket. Call him in treat him and let him off to play again. When you can get your hands on him play and pet him and leave him off to run again. And when you want to pick him up call him in pet and play with him before you put the lead on. You can keep the lead in or out of sight so long as you do one or the other not both at different times.

This will do the trick all right. And when he doe's start to come back every time get him to sit on command before giving her the treat.
