Just wondering has anyone done one of these trips? Or the Stephen Roche one? I'm interested in going for a week cycling maybe September October, I would be on my own so I like the idea of going with a group. Do people hang out together in the evenings, and is there much craic?

I went to the Sean Kelly/SportActive one in Mallorca twice - the second time on my own, although I ended up knowing a lot of people who also booked that week. There's usually a few solo cyclists there, and they all seem to have a pretty good time. The hotel is fairly sedate, caters mostly to families from the UK and Germany. The evening entertainment is usually a group dinner and a few drinks at the bar, although there's nothing stopping you from seeking out a wilder night in the town. I went in March/April, when people were getting started for the racing season, and were early to bed/early to rise for the most part. Might be a different vibe in Sept/Oct when the racing season is over and people are possibly more relaxed. I recommend it though, I enjoyed the two trips there.

I was over there in June for a week and did most rides by myself. Theres usually groups heading out from hotels and bike shops.Theres usually a disparity in abilities with these, so one day might be enough.

I'd recommend buying a map and doing it yourself. Plenty of quiet good quality roads and theres usually a cafe when you want one. Theres a bike shop in Alcudia called Sport Bequi, they do an excellent map with pre drawn routes. Theres months of cycling in them. The owner couldn't be more helpful and is very experienced.

I would also be interested in going on a solo cycling holiday to Majorca? Where abouts did you stay ror_74? Did you hire a bike or bring your own and I presume you booked your flights and accommodation seperately

I stayed in a package holiday place in Alcudia ( was with my non cycling missus ), and brought my own bike. I paid a surcharge of 50 euro on the charter flight to bring the bike. There are plenty of places renting out bikes if you want, so no hassle there, but it worked out cheaper to bring my own, as well as it being my preference.

That was it really. A bit of an issue with the airport transfer because the bag as quite large, but it was smoothed out quick enough.
Great place for cycling and some beautiful villages. Hard to believe, actually, that its the same place that gets all the crazy tabloid press.
