    Work away

Not too excited about this card.

Also got me thinking, is Rousey the only UFC Champion who has never won the belt he/she holds?

Anybody watching this FightPass thing? Whats it like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Shazbot

I didn't watch the Fight Pass fights. I haven't signed up yet. I've just turned on the prelims.

Nothing too interesting on this card except for maybe McDonald v Maia. The co-main event really suffered when Evans got injured. It should be an absolute mauling by Cormier. If not, I'll be pleasantly surprised. The main event should be another sub finish by Rousey.

Interestingly, Cyborg has stated she'll make 135 by summer and win the Invicta 135 title before wanting to fight Ronda by the end of the year. here

That'll be an interesting fight if it happens.

Her Strikeforce title was promoted to the UFC title since there was no previous division. They did the same with Aldo and Benevidez when they merged the WEC into the UFC.

Rogan trying to big Cummings up..."He's an amazing fighter, he hasn't fought too much because 40 people have cancelled fights with him when they realised just how good he is"

Mike Pyle ultra impressive again, one of my favourite fighters to watch. Savy at changing direction, controlling clinch, clever fighter

I hope Rory won't regret not finishing the fight there in the 2nd, was there for the taking!

Could be a draw here, seen far worse decisions than a judge giving that first round a 10-8

Huge takedown in the 3rd says he might regret it.

Lol. Patty-o was confident he could take down DC. Wasn't going to happen.

Feel bad for Patrick, though. Thrown in at the deep end, and never had a chance.

Well that wasn't a surprising conclusion to the co main event.

Dana's new golden egg gets the early stoppage, can genuinely imagine that Herb Dean was told to stop it if it came anyways close

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,777 ✭✭✭raze_them_all_

that was stopped too soon, 3 unanswered shots ffs

"Showcasing her new skills". The UFC PR machine is in full swing

    Herb Dean is shot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭Gumbi

Herb really should have let Ronda solidify that. He definitely jumped in a bit early.

Having said that, Rousey dominated the short fight. She controlled the clinch all the way and delivered all the shots.

McMann was very very humble in her interview.

Mixed feelings towards that. Pissed off that she wasn't even given a chance to get up, but then again she looked out. Was called too early, but wouldn't completely blame Herb for stopping it.

Very disappointed though, was looking forward to a good fight.

The less said about the co-main the better. I had Cormier in first, easy money!

Good call, IMO McMann was out from the liver shot and Herb just saved her from further punishment from an obviously stronger and more talented Rousey.

As a judoka I was looking forward to seeing who controlled the clinch, take downs and ground ~ Judoka or wrestler.

I REALLY wished we'd seen more though. After that liver shot though, I think it would have ended soon after with the way Ronda was bringing it to McMann.

I'm not sure about stronger, but Ronda looked pretty strong in the clinch and controlled it entirely, so there's that.

I just think she's a better fighter. She wasn't fishing for takedowns very obviously (she was looking for a few but wasn't committing, McMann kept Ronda's hips away pretty OK). She brought the fight straight to McMann and wanted to soften her up in the clinch, and she did just that.

I dunno, yeah it was a bit early but mcmann had one hand on the matt and one hand on her liver for 3 undefended shots. I think Herb Dean was right in stopping it. Saying that McMann was trying to get back up. Pity, Mcmann seemed to be landing some nice shots.

That guy booing will have a crazy sore throat this morning!

not a great night for dean
let the pyle fight go on far too long and that stoppage maybe
    a little premature

Looks justified stoppage from this angle

Damn, definitely should have let that go for longer. Herb off the ball completely lately, with Barao/Faber and the Mike Pyle fight on this card. Awfully disappointing.

    Herb can eff off now,

Everyone's an expert. Time all the armchair pundits laid off Herb Dean. I had no problem with the Faber stoppage as he had his bell rung twice in the opening round and was doing little to improve his position, right ok, Faber thought he was still ok but that's not the point. The ref decides who can continue, not like any of these guys are gonna put their hands up and say he should have stopped it, it's admitting defeat.

McMann showed such class after the stoppage, the men should step up and take notice. Similar situation to the Fedor fight that Hendo won, one shot completely crumpled her to the canvas and Rousey got in 5/6 shots unanswered.

The Pyle fight went longer than most peoples tastes, but if it did go on long it wasn't by much. Waldburger was making adjustments to try and improve his position, even though he was eating shots, this is the difference between it and the Faber stoppage.

FInally, if it had have been stopped earlier in the Pyle fight everyone would be complaining he should have let it go, people aren't content with stoppages until someone is KTFO.

Herb Dean is still best in the business, along with Big John and Rosenthal (legal troubles aside)

Nope, Aldo was given the belt also. The bantamweights fought for the UFC belt at the last WEC.

She went limp so there can't be too many complaints.

The Faber stoppage was worse imo.

that is not going limp, it's getting caught with a shot...if that was the case this would never of happened

Just watched it again, yeah she actually didn't.

A promotion over here in Oz recently fitted the ref with a camera.
Pretty cool to see the fight from the refs eyes. I'd really like to see this kind of footage for these so called early/late stopages. It's all well and good with slowmotion, instant replays and even the benefit of multiangle, but the ref has a split second to make a real time decision.

Can't see the video (blocked in work) but I guess it's something like Google Glass? I've seen this used in other sports an it's a really good idea.

Didn't they have this in Pride years ago too??

Defo an early stoppage, sure herb had already decided it was over after the knee. He was waving it off before a few strikes
