Aer Lingus / DAA Strike - Travel Insurance

Hi, with the increasing threat of industrial action on Paddys Weekend I am wondering how I would stand re travel insurance. I never buy my insurance till a few week before travel, not the best idea I know!!

We are travelling to Disney 13th March, around the time of proposed strike action. However what I'm wondering is would insurance be valid if strike action did happen, strike notice hasn't been served by trade unions, however the threat is public knowledge. Could insurance company say I took out the policy with the knowledge of strike action, even though notice hasn't been officially served? To be fair there is a continuous threat of strike action with Aer Lingus for the last number of years.

If the date of the strike is announced and you then book insurance you will not be covered. You should book insurance now before it's announced.

Was thinking as much as it's only threatened strike action at the moment, then again you never know with insurance companies. Thanks for reply

Don't bother, rang Blue Insurance today, even tho strike is only threatened and not confirmed once it hots the media they will not pay any claims. All we can do is keep fingers crossed.......................

I assume you mean 'once it hits the media' which I find hard to believe considering Aer Lingus and/or the DAA have been threatening to go on strike for the past year or more over the pension dispute. I'd get a quote from a different company.

Of course it's laughable that SIPTU themselves have fallen into the same black hole when it comes to DB pensions - they've recently announced that they're reducing benefits for deferred and serving staff because there's a deficit in their own DB pension fund.

Blue Insurance seem to be the only one offering strike cover, you know insurance companies, always looking for the easy way out.

We need a non-Union alternative to the DAA.

The AA mentions strike action on its policy.

As does Ryanairs, suprisingly but you do have to be delayed for 12 hours. :D

I have travel insurance with AIG via my BOI credit card and their cover includes delays or cancellations caused by strikes.
