Cannot remove outside light cover

    The bulb is blown in one of my outside lights. It was installed before I bought the house so dont have the tool that presumably came with it to remove the cover.
    The retaining screws have a unusual top which I can't unscrew, does anyone know what its called and where I could get a tool to remove them?

    That is an anti tamper security screw.You will need a special screwdriver to unscrew it.You will get one in an electrical supply store or you might be lucky and get one in B&Q.
    If you have a small long nosed pliers then you might be lucky and be able to get the points of the pliers in and try to unscrew it.You could also try using a small flat head screw driver,wedge it into one of the screw slots and gently tap the screw anti clockwize with a hammer to loosen it off.But be carefull not to snap or bend the screw.Take it easy with the hammer.

    Thanks jpb14, never thought of using a needle nose pliers - just the trick, a little fiddly but got the job done, thanks!

    Nice one,glad to be of some help to you.
    Had a similar problem recently myself and my long nose pliers came to the rescue.Changed out the sh!tty outdoor pir wall lights the the electrician installed on the back of the house for some nice modern ones from B&Q.Also installed a Steinel standalone pir to control both lights.Had to do a bit of drilling and floorboard lifting upstairs to wire the new cables for the pir and new lights.2 x 4w led gu10s in each light and they give a much nicer spread of light on the back wall and patio of the house.
