Does anybody knows what happened here? The Well is for quite some time now a building site, but no building is going on. Has it collapsed. What is the story?

Thank you for that, that is re-assuring. Looking forward to the end result. It is a smashing well, always full of water.

what did they do to the walkway down to brian boru's fort??

there used to be a lovely forestry walk down to it, but now all the trees are cut down and it looks awful

Its coillte timber so it was due to be harvested. It will probably be replanted in about 2 years depending on the land owner.

wouldn't you think they would have at least waited until after the brian boru celebrations

Not too bothered about the trees. They made it seem gloomy. Now that they are gone, could they fix up the awkward root-strewn path to provide safer access to the site? The earthworks are a Norman addition I think and we have no real idea what it looked like in Brian's time. Although it doesn't take a genius to see the sites strategic importance in an age when Ireland was half covered in woods.

I hope work on the well (Murrough's - not Brian Boru's) will resume as the evenings lengthen. Fair play to the men's shed for work to date.

The work on the well will be slow, as the guy that has to supervise is on another project as well. Obviously special materials have to be used to keep it as close to the original as possible. As the guys in the mens shed are mostly volunteers, they can't proceed without the supervisor.

BTW, if anyone feels like giving a few hours to the mens shed, feel free to call to The Family Resource Centre on the main Street for details. The usually meet at 11 on Tuesday mornings. :)
