Problem with a Doctor

    Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd share my story here.

I've been on sleeping tablets for a while for a rare medical condition, but I have a new doctor now and she will not write me a prescription for sleeping tablets she would not even entertain the idea. Unfortunately this doctor is completely ignorant and does not know my medical history I'm not taking these tablets for fun I absolutely need them in order to sleep.
My old doctor(who is no longer working at the clinic) had no problem prescribing them for the medical condition I have.

The new doctor said she had "never heard" of the medical condition I have therefore it does not exist, yet I have to live with it every day. I told her what the condition was last week but she made no attempt to look into it any further when I asked her about it today.

Due the medical problem I have once I run out of tablets I will no longer be able to sleep for days on end. Without these tablets my health is just going to get worse.

I feel like making a complaint about this doctor but because the medical condition I have is very rare and poorly understood I'm not sure I would get anywhere.

The bottom line is that I really need these sleeping tablets in order to live a normal life. If I cant get them from my GP I will be forced to buy them on the street and I really dont want to do that.

I know this forum cant offer medical advice but I'd be very grateful if anyone can pm me with suggestions on what I might do.

    Thanks

i would imagine that your new doctor is more than aware of your medical history, given that you are in the same clinic.

if your new docter doesnt think that you should get whatever previous medication you were on, perhaps you should just go with whatever she is advising.
    she is a professional.

Why doesn't your current GP have your medical records?
GPs take notes of all visits.

What's the super rare medical condition??

One thing this new gp will have full access to your medical records and most likely has read them before your appointment ,
I can honestly see where you would have a legitimate complain against a doctor,
Demanding a prescription for sleeping tablets and the length your willing to go for them in your own words makes it sounds and look like addiction to them ,

Clinics would hold central patient files so this GP wold be well aware of your medical history most probably.

Oftentimes, if a medical professional senses a dependency is at play, they are loath to writing out repeat prescriptions for what are ultimately classed as highly addictive benzos or hypnotics.

OP, as you have seemingly read the forum charter, you know that requesting medical advice is forbidden, as is requesting other members to PM you with said information.

Other than recommending that you speak to your GP, there is no more that we can do to assist you with this matter.
