    Hi All,

I am hoping to join a running club in Dublin soon, but am unclear as to which clubs, if any, would be open to a potential member like me.

My back story is that I am a guy in my mid-30s. I've been going to the gym for the last 5/6 years, but am recently tiring of the repetitive nature of it. The only thing I enjoy these days hammering out 5 kms on the threadmill. My intent has always been to start running outdoors, but I am lacking the motivation to do this alone.

I am reasonably fit and can complete the 5 km threadmill run in 21 - 22 minutes. I'd really like to start training to run some faster 5 kms and 10 kms. I live in West Dublin; ideally I would be looking at a club that trains in the Phoenix park.

Another criterion for me is a club that is reasonably social with friendly people. This may sound a bit sad, but my social life is a bit stale at the moment and I would like the opportunity to get to know some like minded people, whilst simultaneously running decent times.

For those of you in the know, could you please recomend a club that would welcome someone of my ability, but is also relatively social?

    Many thanks in advance.

Civil Service Harriers train in the Phoenix Park.

Also Donore Harriers clubrooms is based just outside the Phoenix Park.

There's a couple of clubs that might be suitable. Donore Harriers train in the Park, as do the Civil Service Harriers and possibly Liffey Valley AC, although I'm not 100% sure. If you're in West Dublin, there's also clubs in Lucan, Leixlip and Dunboyne. The best thing to do is go online, check their training times and turn up to a session to get a feel for the club.

Your other option is to join the Dublin Runners group on meetup.com or check out the RunClub that Runways in Parnell Street run. They're less formal than normal athletic clubs and could be a good way to get used to running outside with other people.
