    Hi

Im currently working full time and have been for the last ten years. At the moment im studying part time but in a few mths may have to leave my job for a mandatory four weeks work placement as part of my college course.
After this four week placement I will be available and will be looking for a new job.
My question is : am I entitled to job seekers allowance if im studying part time as well ? The course is on-line so it doesnt impact on my availablity to work.
Will the social welfare office be aware that im studying part time through my PPS number? My bank balance and savings was used to fund the course of which im six mths into two years and unfortunely I cannot afford not be be receiving job seekers.Ive heard of a PTE benefit but I havent had the time to call to the welfare office and would rather have as much info as possible before calling.

    Cheers

can you not return to you existing job after the placement? If you are deemed to have voluntarily left work, you may be barred from claiming for 9 weeks. There shouldn't be a problem with you studying part time online under the PTEO, as long as the course is not deemed full time. You have to tell them about the course, they can see you are studying from your PPSN, maybe not your local office, but the connection will be made in the system, so be upfront.

Cheers , was thinking that it would show on my PPSN so probably best to be honest from the start.Unfortunely I wont be able to go back to my current job as I need another 3 weeks off to go to the Gaeltacht over the summer. Was just worried about not be entitled to a job seekers allowance. Will drop in to the welfare office soon and probably best to get my job to cancel my contract:)

The first 4 weeks can be taken as holidays... could you not apply for unpaid leave for the next 3 weeks.

Can you talk to your employers? We have a girl at work doing teaching and is on 6 weeks placement at the minute, it's pretty quiet so suits us and we wanted to keep her as long as we could as she's a great employee. You never know!
