What MPG could I expect to get out of a 04 Volkswagen polo 1.2 petrol?

And are they a reliable little car?

    Thanks

Even still 40mpg is great, I wouldn't of taught that from a 04 petrol car cause that's better than a lot of diesels.

I'd just be driving around town in it mostly to be honest

Would they be a reliable little car?

Id say you would have no bother getting 35-40 around town.

Given a choice I'd rather something like a Yaris or Fiesta of similar vintage.

Don't know about economy but I was reading 1.2 is a bad design which leads to misfires in particular cylinder at early mileages.

A friend had to trade a one in at 70k miles after hearing engine needs a rebuild to fix heavy misfire on top of oil leaks everywhere.

Car was being serviced and not driven hard in her ownership of last 3 years.

That's very good is presume I'd get even better then on the motorway. The car was just giving to me by a family member for half notting really. It has a 100000miles on the clock but has never really giving them much problems. Can I expect to get much more millage out of the car?

You could get another 100000 miles out of it or it could explode tomorrow. Its nearly imposable to tell. Just have it serviced regular and fix any problems that happens promptly. In general 100000 miles is not that high especially for the year.

You will not get much better on the motorway, that's where diesel starts to make sense.

About the 40mpg mark as has been said. Type of driving would influence this a lot though.
